WIN AGAIN After introducing the first JP Formula in fall 2009 and Antoine Albeau FRA192 immediately winning the 2010 Formula world title we started the development for a new version. We always kept in mind that a formula board has to work in all possible conditions around the world and for riders of different weight classes and sailing style.
The focus for a racing machine is easily defined: it must be faster, faster,... and easier to ride on all courses.
We tried very hard to make one board that covers all conditions and riders but after various prototypes we discovered that some boards have a clear edge over others in certain environments. We realized that offering 2 boards makes sense to ensure that racers can choose the board that will fit their size, style and location they are racing in.
FORMULA POWER A powerful board that creates instant lift and gets you planing in the lightest winds. The power generated from this board shape is ideal for lighter winds and gusty racing conditions that are often found on lakes and in harbor type locations. In those areas you often have to follow wind shifts and need to go up and downwind instantly in the most radical, possible angles.
A scoop rocker line with a longer flat section in combination with a low nose entry results in a longer rail length which creates good grip and a powerful upwind lift.
Made for riders who like to push hard and go upwind in the highest possible angle.
FORMULA SPEED This board is a combination of our slalom and formula designs to create a smooth easy sailing formula board that gets all of its race winning desire from speed. It especially works well in open sea conditions where the wind is more consistent and the rider finds the space on the race course to generate its incredible speed and round the upwind mark in the lead. On the way down this board is by far the fastest - easy to sail and glides over chop without resistance. Its control is just unbelievable.
The higher nose entry and shorter flat section make the board ride very freely and fast. That loose ride also makes it easy to control.
A board which suits the rider who prefers to sail a slightly less radical upwind angle but wants maximum speed and control.
SHAPE Both boards follow the same basic specification in width and length. The difference lies in the scoop rocker line as described above.
Both boards are equipped with a strong V in the nose area combined with angled tuck bevels. This feature guarantees a comfortable forgiving ride that is essential especially on the way down. A smooth entry is a must when overtaking swell or chop fully powered on the downwind course. Catapults would be catastrophic!
Sharp parallel edges all the way back to the Cut-Out generate a long rail line which transforms the lift created by the fin into instant upwind drive.
Full rails in combination with the race deck under the front foot allows the rider to push hard and stay connected to the board at all times.
The concave deck shape in the mast base area brings the rig closer to the water's surface and makes it easier to sail the board flat and in a constant angle.
SUMMARY Two boards tested and approved by the current Formula World Champion Antoine Albeau together with Micah Buzianis and Pieter Bijl - shaped by Werner Gnigler. Those two boards cover all conditions and riders and are both ready to win - the choice is yours. |
